A few words about Kampor
|
Kampor is old fishing village in the northwest of the island, which is slowly awakening from sleep. Roman name originates from the campus (field). Kampor is the largest village on the island. It has numerous bays. The most famous is the large sandy beach "MEL" and bays St.Euphemia, "Suha Punta" and black wood forest Dundovo. Kampor truly is the desirable destination for the annual vacation. There is also the only Museum on the island of Rab, situated in the old Franciscan convent from year 1458 Beside the monastery is a Gothic church of St's. Bernadine built in the XVII century baroque style. Museum has a collection of paintings, library and a very valuable archival materials. In Kampor is also the Memorial cemetery of the concentration camp from II. World War which is definitely worth a visit
Due to the shallow bay in Kampor , no dock for larger ships could be made , so for the big ships the main harbour is in the City of Rab
